The training Practical UML is not about just learning the language. Instead we focus on optimal and effective use of the language. UML (Unified Modeling Language) is the standard language for modelling, well, just about anything. UML was published as a standard by OMG for the first time in 1997. The latest version, 2.5, is from March 2015, containing improvements and most importantly simplifications on the UML metamodel when compared to the previous 2.4.1 version. Our training covers the 2.5 version of the standard.
UML has a large number of advantages. Using it correctly is not just assimilating that enormous standard. No, what you need to know is what to use and what not to use. It is in the restraint that the master is revealed.
- History and context — what is it UML wants to bring?
- Parts of UML — Static- and dynamic diagrams.
- Modelling with UML — Case tools and how to link with development environments
- Applying UML successfully within organisations
- UML and Domain Specific Languages (DSL’s)
- UML in relation with BPMN and ArchiMate
- Future thoughts
The training consists of presentations interspersed with examples and exercises. All course elements are extensively illustrated by practical exercises, to immediately apply what you have learned. We work with flip-overs, post-its and crayons, not with computers. Hands-on learning! Participants are given assignments in small groups, the results of which will be discussed globally.
All participants receive course material with the contents of the presentations and bonus material.
During and several months after a training all participants have access to the online learning environment of Reflektis, with questionnaires, discussion forums, interesting articles and links. Course material and provided models are in English. The training itself is in English. On request it can be given in Dutch or German as well. Do not hesitate to inquire into the possibilities of tailoring the training to your needs.
For attendees of this training no special preliminary requirements are needed. Some experience in modelling or programming in object-oriented languages (such as Java or C#) may be advantageous.
All attendees will receive a certificate.
